Like Athens, Build your Foundations

Here we are for this 5th logo. I would say that this is one of my favorite. Oddly, it didn’t take me too long to finish it. I had a clear idea of what I wanted to draw from the beginning. The quote perfectly defines Russcoffitness essence. Like the 4th logo, patience is at the center of this quote with another meaning though. But before I go into details, let me tell you a little bit about Athens, a city that I admire beyond any other cities in the world.

Why did I choose Athens? I could have gone with Rome or Paris for example. First of all, you know that the thematic of those logos is the Ancient Greece. Then, after introducing the most famous characters of the Greek Mythology, I could not forget to talk about Athens.

The first thing you should know is that Athens is one of the world’s oldest cities – it has been inhabited for over 7000 years. Historians have records of the Greek history up to 3400 years ago. Well, that’s a hell of a time, isn’t it?

During the Ancient Greece, Athens was a powerful city-state if not the most powerful. The Hellenic city is widely referred as the cradle of Western Civilization. It influenced many civilizations around the Mediterranean basin and especially the Romans.

Athens is also the birth place of one of the most important value in today’s society: Democracy! Even though it wasn’t perfect, Athenians had liberties and could live in a city that was not subject to the rule of another person. Cleisthenes is said to be the father of the Athenian Democracy. And by the way, we can’t really say that our democracies are perfect either.

Athens also witnessed the emergence of the most popular philosophers of their time: Plato and Socrates. Even nowadays, you might have studied those two philosophers at university.

As you can see, Athens represents a lot of things. It was therefore vital to incorporate the city in one of my quotes.

Build your Foundations

If you think that this fantastic city was built in a day, you are mistaken. Like a house, you start with the foundations. Well, in bodybuilding it’s the same. If you want to look like Arnold Schwarzenegger for example, you are not going to start with a diet to be shredded. First, you will follow a bulking period to add some mass and some muscle to your body.

It can be applied to powerlifters as well. You ain’t gonna lift 300kgs bench press within the first month. It takes time and dedication to build your strength, little bit by little bit.

That’s exactly where I wanna get – patience is once again the key.

When building a house, you start with the foundations because it is the core of the building. It’s the structure to make sure that it won’t collapse. It is very important and your body works the same.

You have to create this basis before adding the roof. And patience is like the cement that slowly becomes tough to hold the entire structure.

Dedication and Motivation

Once you have implemented your foundations, there is still a lot of work to do. To become a glorious city, Athens had to keep expanding. People worked hard to create a city with such beauty.

It’s a never-ending process as there is always some work to do to repair the faulty structures or to add some more buildings.

Well you would understand through this metaphor that your body needs a constant maintenance too otherwise you will lose it all. You either have to keep building more muscle mass or have to train to keep your muscles gains.

This is where dedication and motivation appear in the picture. Dedication is to put all you efforts toward your objectives, to understand that there is nothing more important.

Motivation is to stay dedicated, to find a way to always outcome boredom or the thought of giving up.

Here lies the difference between the strong and the weak. To finish with this paragraph, I’d like to use a quote I really like but that I didn’t come up with: ‘The cowards never start, the weak never finish and the strong never give up.’

Last Word

Bodybuilding is like a city. It takes time to build a prestigious city such as the mighty Athens. It is a long-term investment.

Patience is once again your ally.

So don’t jump the gun! You have to start with solid and ugly foundations before shining. Once it is set up, then your hard work and your motivation will make a difference to stay in the run, no matter what.

Dedication and motivation are powerful tools to stay focus on your objective.

So keep in mind my dear lifters: ‘Athens wasn’t built in a day, don’t except to be the exception.’
